Program: “Autopsy Party, a rebirth of old and damaged FrankenBlankie quilts“

Speaker Lois Levihn performs autopsies to learn what it will take to make the quilt to come back to life! The quilt crime investigations begin with ten questions to ask yourself first.

So, please bring any quilt(s) that you would like advice about how to restore, finish, repair, etc. Lois will incorporate your ‘autopsies’ into her program.

Lois writes on the website at BornAgainQuilts.com: Every quilt is unique. It silently relates the story of its maker and the time period of its creation. Many families cherish and pass them to the next generation. Others are relegated to the auction, the garage sale, or simply thrown away. I used to collect quilts in pristine condition, but I felt sorry for those looked upon with disfavor because they weren’t in ‘perfect’ condition. I have the patience and the talent to take them back to their former glory-thus ‘Born Again’.

Orphaned quilt tops are a different story. They never really had a life. Perhaps grandma didn’t have the space for a quilt frame, or arthritis took its toll, or simply she just loved to piece and didn’t care to quilt. Whatever the reason many of these tops are in great condition – they never saw the light of day – just tucked away in a bureau drawer or cedar chest to be discovered after grandma passed away. The beauty of the quilt tops is you can take what grandma started and add your own creativity to the project. A time span quilt can either honor grandma’s original plan or be dramatically changed to fit your decor and preferences.

KPQG June Membership Meeting: Tuesday, June 22, 2021

Program: A Trunk Sale, a way you can sell quilting/sewing items you no longer want or need. Kokomo quilt guild member Pamela Hanshew is the host. The meeting/event is at Revival’s Fiber Arts & Gatherings, 328 North Meridian Street, Greentown, IN. Bring your own chairs. The meeting will be held under overhead awnings with plenty of light. The parking lot will be held for those selling their items. For all others, there will be street parking available.

Please call Pam at 443.699.0417 to reserve a parking spot to sell your items from your trunk. If you need more space than in your trunk, there are six tables available. You may bring your own table if you want to be assured you have one. There is no charge for the parking space in the parking lot nor for the tables.

KPQG Saturday Open-Sews

KPQG Saturday Open-Sews None for May. The next one is June 26, 2021, at IWU: 10:00 – 3:00; cost: $5.00. Bring your sewing machine and supplies to enjoy a day of quilting, sewing, fun and fellowship. You also may participate in the featured lesson: a demonstration of hand quilting and the ‘big stitch’ taught by KPQG member Cindy Hicok. More details forthcoming.

For the KPQG Saturday Open-Sew, August 28, 2021, the featured project is Tumbler Donation Quilts headed up by KPQG member Julie Armstrong. She plans to prepare kits to have ready for members to sew the quilts at the August Open-Sew day. Julie requests donations of fabric for 6.5″ x 6.5″ blocks, the binding and the backing. There is also a need for donated batting. You may bring your donations to the guild meeting on Tuesday, May 25. Otherwise, please contact Julie to make arrangements to give her your donation.
