Program:  “Specialty Rulers” presented by Vickie Smith with Quilt Expressions

Vickie Smith has lived in Indiana most of her life. She grew up in Indiana where she learned to sew as a young girl making Barbie doll clothes. She moved around the country with her husband and learned to quilt in 1992 after their son was born. Vickie quickly became obsessed with quilting, taking classes and watching television shows like Quilt in a Day and the Alex Anderson series. Her early quilts were traditional, but she soon began to branch out with the new, as modern fabrics hit the market. Today most of her quilts are modern and scrappy. The more fabrics, the more exciting!

Vickie loves to learn new techniques and work with all of the specialty rulers. Her favorites are Jaybird rulers, the Quick Curve ruler, and the Stripology rulers.

After retiring in 2015, she started working at Quilt Expressions. She teaches a variety of classes that emphasize techniques and the versatility of the rulers. Also, Vickie has a longarm quilting business which has kept her busy for the past nine years.

Vickie loves to spend time with her husband, Bob; adult children, Sarah and Ryan; and their dog, Cato. If she is not at the quilt shop or with family, she loves to be in her basement studio quilting for others and herself!
