Program: “Not Your Average Quilter Trunk Show” presented by Michael Stephens. Michael was in the 7th grade when he learned to quilt from his grandmother. His first business was a graphic design company “Art Ovation” where he created company logos with appliques on fabric and branched into creating costumes and flags for high school flag corps and color guard groups. Here he found he gravitated toward fusible applique and it remains his true passion. People seek him out to make applique wall-hangings from photos.
Michael also experiments with re-creating complex printed fabrics or panels using traditional piecing. He designs his own quilts for his block-of-the-month projects and teaches classes of up to five persons. He is well-known for his custom quilting; so much so that long-armers come to him for their own custom quilting.
In 2019, Michael set up his quilt shop “Not Your Average Quilter/Art Ovation” in the same building where his mother had a bakery at 7615 SR-267, Brownsburg, IN. His shop continues to expand. He shares his projects, classes and fabric lines on his Facebook page, Not Your Average Quilter. There you can message Michael about anything you would like to order.
