PROGRAM: “Why stay home to quilt when you can quilt at a retreat: thoughts about my quilting adventures past, present and future.” Away-from-home quilting experiences, planning for retreats and members sharing their experiences.
Program presenter: Ann Abel, accomplished quilter and KPQG member. In addition to the guild, Ann is a member of the Indiana State Quilt Guild (ISQG) and American Quilter’s Society (AQS). She enjoys taking classes, attending retreats and quilt shows, and visiting quilt shops wherever she and her husband travel.
Ann said, “I took my first quilt class at Hazzitall on the east side of Kokomo in 1978 while I was on maternity leave. I finished that quilt in about 1 1/2 years but did not do much more with quilting until my daughter graduated from high school. I joined the guild in 1996 and have been quilting actively ever since.”
Ann participated in the Cherrywood Lion King challenge in 2016. She created a quilt that was 20″ x 20″ and made it from the challenge fabrics plus a few other Cherrywood colors. She titled the quilt “…working on my Roar!” The quilt was chosen to travel. Ann sent it to Cherrywood in July 2016 and received it back in February 2018.
